Family Photo Session during Grand Balcon Nord Hike

Booking a family photo session during Grand Balcon Nord hike in Chamonix is an experience you will never forget!

We started the day around 8:30 – 9:00 by taking the Aiguille du Midi cable car to its first stop. The views from there towards Chamonix and the mountains around are truly breathtaking. It is a great place to start the session while observing the rising sun picking from behind the mountain ridge.

From there we started our hike towards Mer de Glace. Grand Balcon Nord is probably the most picturesque hike around Chamonix. There isn’t even a minute without jaw dropping views. It is not a strenuous hike and takes around 3 hours (depending on your fitness level and if there are kids with you).

The path we follow is well marked and easy for the most part. We cross some fallen stones and small rivers from melting snow. The view down towards Chamonix is unbelievable 🙂

We had more than enough time and the weather was ideal, so we were stopping and taking photos quite often. Everything around is so beautiful. At about 2/3 of the hike, we started climbing towards Signal Forbes peak at 2,212 m. It takes about 25 minutes and is the hardest part of the hike. Nothing dangerous, just a path going up.

The view from the top towards Mer de Glace is hard to describe. As a photographer in Chamonix, this is one of my favourite spots for family photos. It is also a perfect spot for a quick picnic.

Hiking down to the train station at Mer de Glace takes further 25 minutes and we also took some photos along the way. There are many nice spots around the station to explore and photograph and we even had lunch in the hotel next to it (Refuge du Montenvers). It was a blast. The train ride down to Chamonix takes about 20 minutes.
